Montreal Marathon Race Report - through photos

Montreal Marathon Race Report
Sunday, September 28, 2014

Took the VIA train and arrived in Montreal close to noon. After checking in at the hotel, I attended the expo to pick up bib and tech shirt. A smaller expo.

View of expo at Place Bonaventure. To the right of photo is bib and tech shirt pick up. This was followed with Brooks booth. Then the vendors. Did not purchase anything.
Front of tech shirt.

Back of tech shirt.
Scan of bib to ensure chip is working.
Photo of actual bib. Corral 18

Race route.

Bought an all-day public transit pass discounted for the marathon. Took the Metro on the yellow line to Longueuil-Universite de Sherbrooke

Heading to Jacques-Cartier Bridge for start-line
Organized into 28 corrals. I was placed in corral 18. The wave start was effective with 1-2 minutes break before the next corral was released. Reached start line at 9 AM - temperature was 18C at that time!

Entering Parc Jean-Drapeau.

Nice view of the fall colours.

Approaching 1 K. More running room now.

The Montreal Marathon is part of the "Rock 'n' Roll" series. There are 22 bands along the route.

Entering amusement park. View of Jacques Cartier bridge.

Reached 1 mi. Fall colours!

At the 5 K. About to leave the amusement park.

Running on the Circuit Gillies Villeneuve (Formula 1). Note the fence.

Turn around on the route of the Circuit Gillies Villeneuve. Another band performing.

Running on the Pont de la Concorde - leaving the circuit.

Photo of Aqua Dome.

Narrow running route. Great view of downtown Montreal.

Reached 9 mi. Few spectators so far in the race. Thank you to the 3 spectators for cheering us on!

Old Montreal.

Approaching City Hall.

Past a water station. What's great with this race is there is a sign 75 metres to the station - with a list of what is available - e.g., water, sports drink, gel, bananas. Organized with water always first. Great to see several tables spaced well. Volunteers at each table were helpful.

Nice view to the left of Montreal. Here, running with distant view of Molson's.

Montreal has inclines and declines. Here's a decline at 17 K.

Heading northon Amherst. Always great to run in the shade

Heading uphill at the 12 mile mark. Walked up the hill.

Half marathoners reaching the finish line. Prior I had to look at racer's bibs to see if I was on the correct route. That would have been bad.

Yes! Reaching the half way mark.

I enjoyed the 2nd half. Through residential Montreal. Great view of the fall trees (but not weather!)

Lots of running room now that the half marathon is over.

Oh boy - steep decline and later steep incline.

Another band!

27 K at Jean-Talon. Almost at most north part of the racing route.

A shower station! Had to protect my cell phone as it doesn't function well when wet.

18 mi mark. Thank you to the enthusiastic spectator.

Now at the 30 K. Colourful trees. Lots of running room.

Another band!

19 mi mark. The sign is so true. 7 mi to go - a long distance.

Running towards the Olympic Stadium (a favourite!). Notice on the sidewalk there is a runner down. Due to the hot and humid weather, runners seeking medical attention were disturbing to see - I counted 8 racers along the route :-( I monitored my own conditions by drinking lots of gatorade at the water stations as well as run at a slower pace. Should have worn a cap.

Reaching start line of the 10 K. Interesting - the last 10 K of the marathon race is along the 10 K route. I must admit - I enjoyed the final 10 K. Didn't like the half marathon route.

34 K. This is an out-and-back route.

Another photo of the impact of a water station. Thank you to the volunteers who provided us with water and gatorade as well as gather the cups for recycling.

Another photo to convey the plentiful running room.

Saw the Olympic Stadium to the left. Another uphill incline :-|

A photo with the Olympic Stadium in the background. Read that the finish line used to be in the Olympic Stadium but can no longer do that due the increasing size of this race.

40 K. Two more kilometres to go. Can now say, "Almost there!"

Running south before turning left to the finish line.

There's the finish line!

Finisher's Medal - not exciting but earned the medal. Asked someone at the expo what is the landmark - it's City Hall.

Proud little brother, Bud.

Marathon/ultra marathon #24 is now finished. Glad to have run the Montreal Marathon - can cross off my bucket list. Eyeing Picton marathon in early October.

Massage tomorrow after work.

YTD = 1238.6 K
