Race Report - Quebec City Marathon

Full/ultra marathon #31 is now in the books. Quebec City Marathon is well organized. Spectators are supportive. A high quality experience - except for the numerous hills.

YTD = 1063.0 K

Bib activation confirmed.

Low number bib!

Nice tech shirt.

Boarded bus shuttle at 5:15 AM for 30 minute ride to Levis, Quebec. This is the start line for the full marathon. Getting ready for 7:30 AM start.

And we are off!

First (of many) uphills.

Interesting - the K markers indicate how many Ks are left until the finish line. Backwards? 41 K to go.

40 K to go. Great weather - cloudy, temperature in the teens at the start.

38 K to go. Another instance of running uphill. In fact, there are very steep climbs up or down in Quebec City. Same goes with Montreal.

37 K to go. Levis is a peaceful town.

36 K to go. Running in a trail.

35 K to go. Police at strategic places. Volunteers plentiful helping to keep us in the route.

Scenic view on the running trail.

33 K to go.

31 K to go. St. Laurent River to the right of photo. Scenic view for running!

Nice view across the St. Laurent River of the Chateau Frontenac!

29 K to go.

28 K to go. Can see scenic view. People living by the waterfront cheering on their balconies.

A steep uphill climb. No energy to run - walked it.

The wonderful volunteers at the fluid stations. Water and Gatorade distinguished by cup. Volunteers did a great job at each of the stations. There were 2 stations for oranges, 1 station for bananas, 4 stations for sponges, and 1 station for gel.

Yes - another uphill to conquer.

Quiet streets. The runners spaced out rather quickly. There were times I wondered if I was on the correct route and was assured by the volunteer nearby.

22 K left. Spectators throughout the course.

Yes! Half way done.

This climb was very tough - steep.

16 K to go. Approaching bridge to take us back to Quebec City. Thus, need some steep climbs.

15 K to go. There's the bridge!

Can see the running route once I get down. That means some downhill declines :-)

Here's the bridge.

Construction on the waterfront.

10 K to go!

Music! Great addition to the race.

4 K to go. Spectacular view.

Interesting!

40 K done; 2 K to go.

750 m to go. To the left is the Museum of Civilization, which I went to see yesterday.

500 m to go. The medics on the bikes were great. They proactively asked each person if they were okay.

Finish line in sight!

Bud enjoying the finisher's medal around his neck.

Finisher's Certificate. Marathon #31 is completed.

Chateau Frontenac! Huge inclines needed to get to uptown.

Amazing view of Quebec City from 17th floor of Chateau Frontenac.

Went to Museum of Civilization of Saturday. Photo is a preserved mummy with the straps removed. Impressive!
