Arrived in Ottawa!

Arrived in Ottawa. Went to expo to pick up bib and tech shirt. Toured Parliament Buildings.

Very concerned with the hot and humid weather conditions forecasted for tomorrow's Ottawa Marathon. There was talk of cancelling the race; however, it's a go, with an alert notice of "Red" - high heat - i.e., potentially dangerous conditions. The 10 K tonight was delayed until 7 PM and tomorrow's half marathon will start 45 minutes earlier. I had hoped for a 6 AM start (rather than 7 AM) but the newspaper stated they could not guarantee water station set up in time.

Activated my bib.

Toured the Parliament Buildings. This time, I got an English tour.

One Week Until Ottawa Marathon; Registered for Philadelphia Marathon!; message from Whitby race director

Next Sunday is the Ottawa Marathon! Looking forward to this highly organized race. One of my favourites! Hope the weather is not too hot.

Just registered for the Philadelphia Marathon! Enjoyed the Dallas Marathon immensely last fall. Looking forward to visiting Philadelphia and learning more about the USA history. Fascinating!

On another note, received a very surprising (shocking?) e-mail from the Whitby International Marathon. My time is correct.

Biggest issue for me is safety of the race course. I had major concerns with the Niagara International Marathon since there were no gels and water in the latter part of the course. This did not happen with the Whitby Marathon. It was a small race however there was plenty of water (although a couple of stations didn't have eLoad - but that didn't matter to me as I took the water (often with a gel). I was disappointed with the Whitby cotton shirt and finisher's medal (same all 3 times I participated). Course was scenic and the people in the race were great. Yes, I would register for the Whitby Marathon again - bargain for $35 :-)

Hi everyone,

My name is Jim Gore and I'm the fellow who did the timing yesterday. Unfortunately, my site is out of commission right now and the webmaster for the WIN Marathon site is on holiday, so my temporary fix is to give you links to the files on my Google Docs account.

Whitby International Marathon Photo Race Report

Whitby International Marathon Photo Race Report

- sunny, cool breeze, low 20s C
- scenic route; different route than last time I ran it
- $35 registration for full marathon
- gels on site
- excellent volunteers - fluid stations, medic people on bikes
- bib pick up on morning of race - this saves a trip!
- concerns: cotton t-shirt, same finisher medal each year
- overall: pleased with race - will sign up again for next year

- Happy to complete full/ultra marathon #37.

Start line! Approximately 65 registered for the full marathon - a small race.

1 K done. Scenic route! It's 10.5 K then turnaround. Then repeat - for the 42.2 K

Downhill and then turnaround.

Turnaround at 10.5 K

Excellent volunteers at the fluid stations! Some stations only had water - but there was plenty.

Finish line!

Bud celebrating the accomplishment!

Surprised the finisher's medal is the same each year! Now own 3 of the same medals!

A cotton t-shirt! This is a first.

YTD = 594.9 K

Don't know what my finisher's time is yet - approximately 5H 30 M. A volunteer had a "pan" to clock the finisher's time and another volunteer took out the electronic timer on the back of the bib.

20 K long run

20 K long run today. Windy, hail, and cold. Didn't wear a toque and then had to return home to pick up. Ran on the Danforth - so it wouldn't be as cold. YTD = 530.7 K
