Race Report - Sunday, March 30, 2014
Photo 2: At the Running Expo, I bought a deep tissue massage ball - my right leg hamstrings is tight.
Photo 3: My race bib.
Photos 4 & 5: Tech shirt - looks great! Got a late e-mail that the tech shirt would be delayed due to current strike. Glad it arrived!
Photos 6 & 7: Pleasant surprise - a cap to celebrate year #120 of the race.
Photo 8: Race route. The first 10 K goes through Burlington Street - which is new. Didn't like it as we had to cross 2 bridges (uphill and downhill).
Photo 9: At the start-line.
Photo 10: On a bridge
Photo 11: At the 7 K mark
Photo 12: Overlooking an uphill decline.
Photo 13: Now back to the regular route!
Photo 14: On the bridge.
Photo 15: Scenic route leading to the very steep hill at 26 K.
Photo 16: Yes! A photo with the man who is a fixture at the 25 K - just before going up the very steep hill. My 6th year doing this race and he's always there.
Photo 17: Up the very steep hill. Cannot fathom running this.
Photo 18: Photo with the Greem Reaper. He has a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/AroundTheBayGrimReaper
Photo 19: Reaching Copps Collesium - enjoy the last couple of Ks - downhill!
Photo 20: And the medal :-)
My Results:
Place = #5650 out of 6762
Gun Time = 3:45:29.8
Chip Time = 3:37:58.0
Pace = 7:16/km
Age Category = 532 out of 566
Gender = 3032 out of 3337
10 K = 1:07.56
15 K = 1:45.57
20 K = 2:19.21
Finish time is slower than usual - ran at a comfortable pace - focus on distance rather than speed. Regardless, the hills made the run challenging - mainly walked up the hills - don't want injury.
Had a slow 2 K warm-up. With this 30 K race, got in 32 K - the maximum distance to prepare for the full marathon. Look forward to the Mississauga Marathon in early May - it'll be here soon. Then, it's the Ottawa Marathon in late May followed by the Niagara Ultra 50 K in late June. Eyeing an additional marathon for this year - maybe Picton (near Belleville) in mid-September or Quebec City in late August.
YTD = 350.1 K
